How to negotiate a used-car price in Pakistan
Good negotiation is evidence-led: establish the comparable range, inspect the car, then make a clear offer linked to the facts.

Work through the evidence.
Prepare one market range
Before the viewing, research the exact model year and variant. A credible range gives you a calm starting point and prevents the conversation from becoming a contest of random listings.
Inspect before discussing the final number
Do not negotiate away a fault you have not identified. Review documents, service history, tyres, suspension, paint, warning lights and repair evidence before deciding where this car belongs within the range.
Make a specific, respectful offer
Explain the basis: comparable market evidence, verified vehicle details and work you expect to do. A clear offer is more useful than repeatedly asking for the seller's 'final' price.
Keep a walk-away point
Set your maximum based on condition and alternatives you can actually buy. If a seller cannot support a premium and will not move, keeping the report and leaving is often the most useful negotiating step.
Record what changes the deal
If a seller agrees to repairs, documents or included items, write down what was agreed and verify it before payment. Verbal promises should not be priced as guaranteed value.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I negotiate on a used car?
There is no fixed percentage. Start from current comparable asking prices and adjust for the specific car's verified condition, history and any work it needs.
Should I reveal my maximum budget?
Usually no. Lead with a researched offer and the evidence behind it. Your budget is not evidence that the car is worth more.
What if the seller refuses a market-based offer?
Ask what supports the premium. If the explanation and evidence are not convincing, compare other available cars rather than forcing the deal.
